Thursday, March 17th. "UP" a Walt Disney cartoon tale of a
cross generational friendship and the meaning of adventure. This
delightful film stars Ed Asner as the voice of the crotchety hero of
the film. (96 minutes)
Thursday, March 24th."THE BLIND SIDE" Based on the true story
of a professional football player, Michael Other, this film explores
the relationships of a homeless teen in Memphis, Tennessee with a
wealthy family who adopts him and helps him to develop into a
college All-American. (129 minutes)
March 32nd. "JULIE AND JULIA" Two women personally
unknown to each other develop their common interest for the
culinnary arts into a celebration of creativity. Meryl Streep stars as
Julia Child who unwittingly serves as a mentor for the young writer
Julie of the title. (123 minutes)
April 7th. "THE ULTIMATE GIFT" The relationship between a
grandfather and his grandson is at the center of this tale of a spoiled,
trust fund baby who in order to receive his inheritance must
undertake twelve tasks which his deceased grandfather calls "gifts"
which is turn challenge him to become a man worthy of his
grandfather's vast fortune. Failure is not an option for the young
man if he is to receive his inheritance. (127 minutes)
April 14th. "THE KITE RUNNER" This exciting film relates the
story of a young man of privilege born in Afghanistan who is forced
to flee his homeland and re-settle in the United States with his father
to escape the persecution of the Taliban forces in his country. An an
adult, he returns to his home country to rescue a young relative from
an abusive situation. The film provides insight into a society in
which rigid caste distinctions and religious intolerance rule. The film
is especially helpful in helping Americans to understand the
complexity of the U.S. involvement in Afghanistan today. (127
minutes)
