Regaining The Meaning of Christmas
During Sunday morning worship the true story of Santa
Claus is told with the arrival of Bishop Nicholas. Bishop
Nicholas is authentically dressed as he appears amidst the
singing of hymns. He tells his story being born during the
third century in Patara, a village in what is now Turkey.
He suffered for his faith in Jesus. He was imprisoned,
and upon being released continued his caring for the poor
in obedience to Jesus words, "sell what you own and
give the money to the poor." Various stories are shared
during worship on this special Sunday morning, focused
on the gratitude he has for God's Son Jesus..
Upon his release from prison, Nicholas attended the
Council of Nicaea in AD 325, where the Nicene Creed was
written. December 6, AD 343 was the date he died and is
the anniversary date each to be mindful of a Godly man's
life.
